The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics was established in October 2013 in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences. The department runs National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics. It is designed to provide meaningful job opportunities for students to integrate knowledge gained during academic coursework in professional nutrition and dietetics settings. The department is headed by Dr. J.C Okafor. Other staff of the department include: Mrs. A. T. Johnson Mrs. K.E. Alaba Mrs. H.O Adewunmi Mr. E. O. Agwo Mr. A.B. Adepoju Mr. O.A. Adetula Miss. R.C. Ugochukwu The secretary of the department is Mrs. F.O Badejoko assisted by an IT staff Mr. S. S. Viadinu.

This programme is designed to produce Assistant Nutritionist/Dietitian capable of formulating and planning diets for groups of hospitals, schools, catering establishment, food industries, ministries and social welfare agencies, specifically, the diplomat should be able to:
- prepare a repeutic diets to prescription;
- undertake nutrition and dietetics field survery under supervision;
- assist in the planning of menu in the catering in food industries;
- carrying out basic catering operations;
- act as diet supervision in Hospital, Hotels,Schools, Industries, Canteen and Social Welfare Agencies;
- plan and administer public enlightenment programme on nutrition;
- assist in assessing and formulating the nutritional qualities of food products in food industries

NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) PROGRAMMES
WAEC,GCE[O/L],SSCE,NECO,NABTEB or equivalent with English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agric Science/Health Science and any one (1) from the following: Food & Nutrition, Economics/Commerce, Physics, Home Management, Agricultural Science. And Relevant NTC/NBC &NVC Trades.
HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) PROGRAMMES
Applicants seeking Higher National Diploma [HND] admission must possess the basic entry requirements for the National Diploma Programme. In addition, the applicant must possess the ND in Nutrition and Dietetics obtained at not less than the Lower Credit level from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro or from any other Polytechnic accredited for the programme, or its recognised equivalent plus a minimum of one [1] year post qualification relevant industrial work experience. The candidate should also request his or her institution to forward his or her official academic transcript under confidential cover to the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro.
