Muhammed in the school of Management Studies. Prior to its establishment as a course, insurance was taken as a course in the Accountancy department. National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on 15th July, 2015 visited for the Resource Inspection of the programme and was given a provisional accreditation on 25th July, 2015, for the department to commence admission for the first set of students of the department. What we do in the Department of Insurance

Overview

Insurance department was established in accordance with the decree of Polytechnic rules and regulation from accountancy Department by the Head of Department Dr. S. R. Muhammed in the school of Management Studies. Prior to its establishment as a course, insurance was taken as a course in Accountancy department. National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on 15th July, 2015 visited for the Resource Inspection of the programme and was given a provisional accreditation on 25th July, 2015, for the department to commence admission for the first set of students of the department. The pioneer Head of Department of Insurance is Mr. Raji, Oladeinde Akeem with other five (5) Lecturers namely Mr. J. A. Yusuf as the first Examination Officer, Mr. D. L. Adeyemo as the Staff/Student Adviser, Mr. Y. A. Soye the Project Coordinator, Mr. S. A. Oyede as the Departmental Welfare Officer and Mr. Ogbu as a member of staff, Akintelure O. L. (Mrs) as the first Confidential Secretary and Salako, S.T. (Mrs) as the first Clerical Staff while Omojola, T.O. (Mrs) is the current Confidential Secretary of the department. The department also got her initial accreditation in 2017/2018 academic session. The department had produced two sets of ND graduates. The Insurance Department, The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, is widely known to all the Insurance Practitioners and recognized by CIIN which has facilitated smooth relationship between the insurance companies and the students of the department to have their one-year industrial trainee in any reputable insurance company so chosen by them. However, over 70% of the staff are members of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).

Our Objectives

The aim is to produce graduates who should be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of Insurance operations of different types of Insurance business, assist in the collection and integration of basis insurance data for use in making investment decisions, transmit a body of knowledge and a command of adequate technical business skills, techniques  and also learn how to communicate successfully with others.

  • Transmit a body of knowledge and a command of adequate technical business skills and techniques;
  • Learn and communicate successfully with others;
  • Understand themselves and their environments and the community in which they live;
  • Appreciate the importance of insurance business as it relates to life and properties;
  • Assist in the analysis and evaluation of investment proposals, price and market trends.
