WELCOME TO FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILARO

The Music Department of The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro took off with 43 students in October 2016. The pioneering students graduated in October 2018 with 5 distinction students. In line with the vision, which is aligned with the corporate strategy of FPI (to be the best in Nigeria within its mandate) we have adopted an emphasis on practical training. As a polytechnic, we emphasize ‘ music technology & rsquo; hence for all our courses, practical contents are compulsory (in addition to those specified by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE). Our goal is to ensure that our graduates are job-ready (either as employees or self-employed). To make this possible, the management ens...

Summary of Profile

Research on African Musicological Studies and Theories of Yoruba Traditional Music: the study investigates the social contexts and their influences on the development of Yoruba musical forms and performances. Musicology is the science of the nitty-gritty or the nucleus of song hence it adoption in the study of Traditional Yoruba music. Therefore, the following areas are the focus of my current researches:

  1. Musicology of Yoruba Music Theory
  2. Forms of Yoruba Music
  3. Systematization of Yoruba Musical Scales
