The National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) Resource Team visited the department in November 2007, and approval to admit students to the department was granted with effect from October 2007. A substantive head of the department was appointed in January 2008. The first batch of students was admitted in the 2008/2009 academic session. What we do in the Department of Computer Science

Overview

The department was established by the Academic Board and a coordinator was appointed by the management to midwife the proposed department in September 2007. The National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) Resource Team visited the department in November 2007, and approval to admit student to the department was granted with effect from October 2007. A substantive head of department was appointed in January 2008. The first batch of students was admitted in 2008/2009 academic session. In year 2009, a team of NBTE visited the department for the full accreditation of the National Diploma (ND) Computer Science programme full accreditation was granted in October, 2009. The academic staff of the department worked so hard and by October 2010, an interim accreditation for HND Computer Science was also granted with a class of one stream of 30 students. By November, an additional stream was granted by the NBTE for HND programme making a total of 2 streams of 30 students (60 students). In 2016, full accreditation of HND programme and reaccreditation of ND programme was carried out by the same body – NBTE. The department recorded success in the two (2) programmes with the granting of full accreditation and reaccreditation. The department has produced many graduates who are doing very well in their different endeavours. The Department comprises of 21 Academic Staff, a Technical Staff and Two Non-Academic Staff.

Our Objectives

It is aimed at producing graduands that Should be able to: Install and manage a computer system. Design and run efficient programs in a wide spectrum of fields and in various languages.

WAEC,GCE[O/L],SSCE,NECO,NABTEB or equivalent with Credits in English Language, Mathematics, a basic Science and any two of the following: Economics, Geography, Government/History, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Typewriting. Electrical Installation & Maintenance Work, Electronics, Radio/ Television and Electronics Works, Computer Craft Practice,    A pass in Physics is compulsory for Computer Science and Relevant NTC/NBC &NVC Trades. 

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) PROGRAMMES

Applicants seeking Higher National Diploma [HND] admission must possess the basic entry requirements for the National Diploma Programme.  In addition, the applicant must possess the ND in Computer science obtained at not less than the Lower Credit level from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro or from any other Polytechnic accredited for the programme, or its recognised equivalent plus a minimum of one [1] year post qualification relevant industrial work experience. The candidate should also request his or her institution to forward his or her official academic transcript under confidential cover to the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro.
