ACTU SENSITISES FPI MANAGEMENT AND STAFF

Corruption cuts across all sectors of Nigeria's economy, hindering the necessary growth and development in Nigeria.

It could be inferred that Nigeria’s rate of under-development is traceable to poor accountability and transparency among public officer holders, hence the need for sensitization of public office holders on the urgent need to shun corruption practices in all it's forms.

The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro Chapter, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) successfully conducted a three day intensive training on anti-corruption strategies.

The training, which took place at the institution’s Raheem Oloyo International Conference Centre, between the 27th to 29th August, 2024 was aimed at equipping participants with the skill and knowledge needed to combat corruption in educational organizations such as the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro.

At the opening ceremony, Tpl. Lukman Lasisi, Deputy Rector, Administration who aptly represented the Rector, Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde, explicitly noted that the present administration has a high regards for integrity, adding that, it will no longer be business as usual.

He admonished all office holders to shun corruption, stressing that anyone found guilty will be allowed to face the penalty, which, according to him, will in turn serve as a deterrent to others.

He however emphasized that diligent staff will equally be rewarded accordingly.

"As an educational organization, we are committed not only to provide quality education, but also ensuring that our products; the graduates are  inculcated with strong standard morals", adding that "if we don’t fight corruption, corruption will fight us as the aftermath of corrupt practices affects everyone."

The training was in three categories, cutting across different topics anchored by seasoned and highly resourceful facilitators who handled one topic per day.

The first day was organised for Heads of Departments and Service Units, with the topic Entrenching integrity, transparency and accountability in the workplace, deliveed by Emmanuel Akinyele Ademola ESQ, Head of Accountancy Department, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro.

Day two, was specifically for selected staff from Bursary, Audit, Procurement and Physical Planning Units with the topic Combating Corruption In Public Procurement, delivered by Ndukwe Dike Osca, Principal Superintendent, ICPC Oyo State Office.

The third day was reserved for the Principal officers of the institution, Deans of Schools and Directors of Services with the topic Organisation Integrity Management, delivered by Mr Tope Egunjobi, System Study and Review Department, ICPC, Oyo State.

The training attracted audience participation in form of questions, opinions and suggestions concerning the deteriorated state of the economy, stearing up the desire and willingness to fight the menace to its barest possible measure if not it's complete eradication.

The Chairman ACTU,  Ilaro Branch  Barr. Bamidele Okuoga, raised the notion that the fight against corruption will be more effective when it is seen as an individual endeavour, where each public officer proposes to be clean from all corrupt practices.

He emphasized that at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro it will no longer be business as usual.

He also used the opportunity to inform all staff of the institution of the inpending system study review that would commence shortly after the training.

The three days training was highly impactful and successful at sensitizing both staff and students of the presence of ICPC, (in the name of ACTU) on campus for diligent and effective service delivery.
