*FPI LAUNCHES FRUIT CROP PLANTING IN STUDENT HOSTELS TO COMBAT GLOBAL WARMING*

MIn a proactive move towards environmental sustainability and global warming prevention, the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro has launched the planting of fruit crops in its student hostels. 

This initiative is in line with the environmental agenda of President Bola Tinubu,  emphasizing the protection of the ozone layer and promoting green living practices.

The Rector, Dr Mukail Aremu Akinde, FCA, FCIT, during the launching highlighted the importance of this initiative thus, "Our commitment to environmental sustainability is unwavering. By integrating fruit crop planting into our campus culture, we are instilling a sense of responsibility in our students towards nature and its preservation. 

This initiative is a testament to our support for President Tinubu's agenda on environmental protection. 

On his part, the Deputy Rector Administration, Tpl Lukmon Lasisi, stated that the effort is part of the institution's support against global warming and climate change. 

He added that this involves the cultivation of a variety of fruit-bearing plants within the premises of both the male and female hostels. 

Tpl Lasisi added that this does not only aims to enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the campus, but to also provide numerous ecological benefits. 
"By increasing green cover, the institution hopes to contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide levels, thereby playing a small, yet significant role in combating climate change, and alinnig with the food security agenda of Mr President, he stated. 


Mr. S.O Are, the Sub-dean1, representing the Dean, Directorate of Student Affairs
expressed the  supports of the Directorate for the project on behalf of the students stating that recognizing the dual benefits of the project towards contributing to environmental conservation, while potentially enjoying fresh, campus-grown fruits. 

This hands-on approach to sustainability, according to him, also serves as an educational tool, providing students with practical experience in agriculture and environmental stewardship.

As the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro continues to champion such green initiatives, it sets a commendable example for other educational institutions across the country. 

The success of this project could inspire similar efforts nationwide, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future for Nigeria.
