FPI WITED CHAPTER CELEBRATES WEEK WITH DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMMES FOR STAFF.
The year 2024 Women in Technical Education and Development (WITED) was held at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro focussing on developmental programmes and valuable gains for members of the Chapter and the Polytechnic.
Held between Tuesday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 22, 2024 at ASUP Hall, The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, the event kicked off with an opening ceremony which had in attendance the Deputy Rector, (Academics), Dr.(Mrs) Charlotte Bose Iro-Idoro who represented the Polytechnic Rector, Dr Mikhail Aremu Akinde; Deputy Rector, (Admin.), TPL Lukmon Lasisi; the Registrar, Mrs Aderonke Babatola; the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr (Mrs) Bola Atulomah; Former Registrar and Director, Town and Gown, Dr (Mrs) A. F. Osore among others.
In her opening remarks, Chairman of Training and Development Committee, Dr (Mrs) C.V. Abiaziem said that programmes highly beneficial to members were carefully put together to enhance members' health, food security and career development. She listed the programmes to include awareness and training on remedy to cardiac arrest, backyard gardening for food security and training on career progression.
Welcoming guests and members to the event, the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro WITED Coordinator, who is also the host of the programme, Dr (Mrs) Jumoke Soyemi said that the annual week was designed to celebrate and empower Female workers in the Polytechnic in line with the vision and mission of WITED.
She said that this will ensure that women are empowered economically and equipped with necessary information in the areas of health and agriculture, in line the year's theme.
The week was officially declared open by the Rector as represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics) who doubles as the WITED National Vice Coordinator for Southwest, Dr. (Mrs) Charlotte Iro-Idoro.
Training Sessions held during the week include CPR Awareness and Remedy to Cardiac Arrest delivered by Mr Richard Oyesiji and Fish farming and Backyard Gardening for Food Sustainability was delivered by Engr. M.A Okusanya. Mentorship and Career Progresion for Teaching Staff was delivered by the Deputy Rector (Academics) and WITED National Vice Coordinator, Dr. (Mrs) Charlotte Iro-Idoro while the Former Registrar and Director, Town and Gown, Dr (Mrs) A. F. Osore spoke on Mentorship and Career Progresion for Non-Teaching Staff.
