FPI/FUTI Team Secures Prestigious 2025 NRF Research Grant

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, now Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), has recorded another remarkable research milestone with the successful award of the highly competitive 2025 National Research Fund (NRF) Grant to a multidisciplinary team of distinguished researchers from the institution. The research topic is titled: Federated Learning Frameworks for Privacy-Preserving Data Collaboration in Healthcare Systems in Nigeria.

The grant-winning project is led by Mr. Alawode John Ademola as the Principal Investigator (PI), while Dr. Jumoke Soyemi, whose innovative concept inspired the project, served as the Ideator. Other members of the research team include Dr. Jesusina Babatunde, Prof. Folasade Isinkaye, Dr. Aako Olubisi, Mr. Sodeinde Victor, Mr Habeeb Amode and Mr. Adewole Noah.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Jumoke Soyemi, who initiated the project concept and coordinated its development, had to relinquish the position of PI due to an ongoing NRF-funded project. In line with NRF guidelines, a researcher who is a PI in an active NRF grant cannot serve as PI on another NRF project until the existing grant is completed. Consequently, Mr. Alawode John Ademola assumed the role of PI. Mr. Alawode John Ademola and Dr. Jumoke Soyemi defended the project in Abuja.

This achievement is a testament to the culture of research excellence, innovation, and collaboration that continues to thrive within FPI/FUTI. The success of the proposal reflects the team's dedication, expertise, and commitment to developing impactful solutions that address national and global challenges through research and innovation.

The Polytechnic community warmly congratulates the entire research team on this outstanding accomplishment and wishes them success in the implementation of the project and the realization of its expected outcomes.

Special appreciation is extended to the NRF Grant Submission Committee for its invaluable guidance, support, and meticulous review process that contributed significantly to the successful submission of the proposal. The Institution also acknowledges the unwavering commitment of the Directorate of Research and Development in fostering a robust research ecosystem and providing strategic support to researchers.

Furthermore, sincere gratitude is expressed to the Management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, now Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), for its visionary leadership, continuous encouragement of research activities, and sustained investment in academic excellence and innovation.

This achievement further reinforces FPI/FUTI's growing reputation as a leading institution committed to cutting-edge research, technological advancement, and national development.

Congratulations to the entire team on this well-deserved success.
