THROW BACK ON THE MINISTERIAL ASSESSMENT TEAM'S VISIT TO THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILARO.
A Ministerial Assessment Team from the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, visited The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro on December 6, 2025, to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of existing facilities, and institutional capacity, with the aim of assessing the institution’s readiness for its upgrade to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.
The delegation was led by Dr. Ejeh A. Usman (Director, Polytechnic Education) and included Hajia Rakiya Illyasu Gambo (Director, University Education), TPL Halima Rufai Mohid (NBTE Representative), Dr. Esther Mmeka (NUC Representative), Ango U.J (Polytechnic Education), Mrs. Justina Akpa (D.D Education), and Dr. Shotayo Elizabeth (A.D Polytechnic Education).
The assessment exercise commenced at the School of Agriculture, where the team inspected the school farm, livestock units, greenhouses, and processing facilities.
From there, the Rector, Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde, accompanied by all Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, Deputy Registrars and other senior members of staff, led the team to the School of Engineering.
There, the delegation assessed laboratories, workshops, ongoing engineering projects, and equipment units.
The team also visited several academic and administrative units, including Innovation Center, the Bakery Unit, and ICT facilities to mention but a few.
Throughout the tour, the delegation interacted with Departmental Heads, received briefings, and asked critical questions which were satisfactorily addressed.
Speaking after the exercise, the team leader, Dr. Ejeh A. Usman, expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness demonstrated across departments. He commended the institution for its strong technical capacity, practical learning systems, and modern infrastructure suitable for university education.
He noted that the Federal Government was justified in its decision to upgrade the institution to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.
In his response, the Rector appreciated the Federal Government for its support and reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to embrace the responsibilities of university education. He assured that The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro has, over the years, worked tirelessly to strengthen academic programmes, upgrade facilities, and remains committed to maintaining high academic standards.
He further pledged continued collaboration with all relevant regulatory bodies.
The visit marked yet another significant milestone in the transformational journey of the institution.
