UNESCO-UNEVOC, Bonn, Germany Features The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in Newly Launched Global Practical Guide on Inclusion in TVET
1. It is with great pleasure that I announce the successful launch of the Global Practical Guide on Inclusion in Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) today, May 21, 2025. Notably, our Institution, The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, has been prominently featured on pages 61 and 62 of this esteemed publication.
2. This guide provides actionable strategies for building inclusive TVET systems. It promotes collaboration among NGOs, private sector actors and education providers to ensure no learner is left behind.
3. Circa 2022, under the visionary leadership of our immediate past Rector, Arc Olusegun Aluko, our institution attracted a grant to participate in the UNESCO-UNEVOC's initiative to become more inclusive TVET institutions, among other six institutions in Africa and Southeast Asia. Our team, comprising Tpl Olasunkanmi Olapeju, PhD (Project coordinator) Eng. Jide Soyemi PhD(Management's Representative), Dr. Olubunmi Banjo(Team Member), and Dr. Busayo Irivboje (Team Member) worked tirelessly, from concept note ideation to implementation stages,to deliver the project- 'Enhancing Inclusion of the Girl-child in Endangered Engineering-Based Artisanal Jobs'.
4. Our project would ultimately be among the select few whose reports have been adopted and made to feature in the practical guide by UNESCO-UNEVOC.This recognition speaks to our institution's commitment to promoting inclusive TVET practices and our dedication to excellence.
5. The Directorate of Training and Development (UNESCO-NBTE Center) of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro is quite excited and proud of the highly impactful visibility we have been afforded. We look forward to scaling the success story, seamless adaptation, and implementation of the practical guideline in our Institution and other TVET-minded organisations within our regional footprints.
6. On behalf of the project team, I profoundly appreciate UNESCO-UNEVOC, Bonn for the opportunity and acknowledgement of our efforts. Our immediate past Rector, Arc Olusegun Aluko, is deeply appreciated for his ingenious insights, the confidence reposed, the support, and the congenial milleu afforded the team. The Rector, Dr Mukail Akinde, FCA., FCIT, and other members of his efficient Management team, are greatly appreciated for sustaining the support, enabling conditions, and motivation for the effectuation of the project's sustainability plan and amazing readiness to being at the frontline of adapting UNESCO-UNEVOC's products and tools in furthering inclusive TVET in Nigeria.
7. I also immensely appreciate the creative inputs and criticism of Robert Stowell, UNESCO-UNEVOC's technical consultant, the support granted by UNESCO-UNEVOC's Gantoye Priscilla and Lenny Martini, NBTE's Mr Ayo Aroge's technical advisory role and coordination, the cooperation of the leaderships and supporting staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Innovation Centre, Principals and Teachers of the secondary schools whose pupils actively participated in the taster project, parents, and external stakeholders that partnered with us in the delivery of the project.
