COURSE OBJECTIVES [PART-TIME]
The National Diploma Programme in Library and Information Science aims at producing Library Officers for the nation's libraries and information centres who will be capable of performing middle-level manpower functions in libraries. On successful completion of the programme, the graduate should be able to carry out the following functions: Acquisition, processing and preservation of library resources (print and electronic). Catalogue classifies books. Process journals and other reference materials. Compile some general and specific subjects, bibliographies, indexes and abstracts. Perform reader services with minimum supervision. Supervision of junior technical and non-technical staff in a library. Take charge of a school or community library efficiently and effectively. Utilise Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in information handling and processing.

WAEC,GCE[O/L],SSCE,NECO,NABTEB or equivalent with Credits in English Language (not Literature in English), Mathematics, and any three subjects from the following: History, Economics, Commerce, Literature in English, Fine Art, Government, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Basic Electricity, Geography, Typewriting, Principles of Accounts, Photography, Computer Science, Music, Nigerian and International Language, Printing and Craft Practice, Radio/ Television and Electronics Works, Shorthand, Fine Art / Visual Art, Book Keeping, CRS/IRS, Cosmetology, Marketing, Civic Education, Pass in Physics, Electronics/Basic Electricity will be an advantage. HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) PROGRAMMES
Applicants seeking Higher National Diploma [HND] admission must possess the basic entry
requirements for the National Diploma Programme. In addition, the applicant must possess the
ND
in Computer science obtained at not less than the Lower Credit level from the Federal
Polytechnic, Ilaro or from any other Polytechnic accredited for the programme, or its
recognised
equivalent plus a minimum of one [1] year post qualification relevant industrial work
experience. The candidate should also request his or her institution to forward his or her
official academic transcript under confidential cover to the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic,
Ilaro.
