NATIONAL DIPLOMA

NATIONAL DIPLOMA [FULL-TIME]

MODE OF STUDY :

Full Time  |  Time-Table: Day  |  Duration: 4 Semester

COURSE OBJECTIVES [FULL-TIME]

QUANTITY SURVEYING ND FULL TIME COURSE OBJECTIVES

The National Diploma programme in Quantity Surveying is aimed at producing middle level technicians that are capable of performing basic functions in Quantity Surveying both in private and public sectors. The graduates will assist the professional in low-rise building production in such aspects as:

- preparation of bills of quantities, bill of approximate quantities and schedule of rates for minor works;

- management of small projects;

- preparation of tender documents for minor works;

- preparation of schedule of materials;

- supervision of actual purchasing of materials using the appropriate inventory modelling techniques;

- preparation od specifications for minor works;

- safety, welfare and quantity assurance in building construction;

- costing of simple construction works; and

- cost control techniques in minor construction and engineering works

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) PROGRAMMES

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) PROGRAMMES

Applicants seeking Higher National Diploma [HND] admission must possess the basic entry requirements for the National Diploma Programme.  In addition, the applicant must possess the ND in Quantity Surveying obtained at not less than the Lower Credit level from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro or from any other Polytechnic accredited for the programme, or its recognised equivalent plus a minimum of one [1] year post qualification relevant industrial work experience. The candidate should also request his or her institution to forward his or her official academic transcript under confidential cover to the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro.

NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) PROGRAMMES

WAEC,GCE[O/L],SSCE,NECO,NABTEB or equivalent with Credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any two of the following Economics/Commerce, Building Construction, Technical Drawing/Graphics Design, Civic Education, Carpentry and Joinery, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Painting and Decoration, Wood work to IED, Computer Studies, Chemistry, Biology,  Geography, Further Mathematics, Religious Knowledge,  Metal Work, Basic Electronics, Introduction to Building Construction, Financial Accounting, Draughtsmanship/ Graphic Design, Machine WoodWorking, Computer Studies,   Computer Craft Studies, Furniture Making, Electrical Installation & Maintenance Work, Welding and Fabrication   A pass in Technical Drawing and  or Building Construction will be an advantage.

HND COURSE OBJECTIVES [FULL-TIME]

The Higher National Diploma programme in Quantity Surveying is designed to produce Higher Technicians in the construction industry. On the completion of this programme, the diplomates should be able to:

- measure and prepare bills of quantities and contact documents for construction works;

- prepare final account for construction projects;

- measure works as constructed;

- extract and compile schedule of materials required for construction;

- interpret contract document for all types of construction works;

- prepare estimates for construction projects;

- undertaking feasibility studies for construction projects;

- assist in valuing existing landed properties;

- give cost advice to the designer/supervisor from inception to completion;

- prepare budget and cash-flow for construction projects;

- use computer for cost-related aspects of construction works;
