NATIONAL DIPLOMA

NATIONAL DIPLOMA [FULL-TIME]

MODE OF STUDY :

Full Time  |  Time-Table: Day  |  Duration: 4 Semester

COURSE OBJECTIVES [FULL-TIME]

The National Diploma programme is designed to produce technical personal that would be capable of assisting the Professional town planners in their duties. Specifically, holders of the diploma will be able:

- to understand the nature and the purpose of the physical planning at the local, state, regional and national levels;

- to understand the origins, spatial patterns and forms of urban and rural settlements, and the factors that determine and shape their structure;

- to understand the concepts, theories and techniques that can be adopted to plan or re-plan urban and rural settlements;

- to understand the laws that guide the arrangement of land uses, Town Planning Profession and Practice; and

- to understand the techniques of preparing Environment Impact Assessment Report on the location of major physical development so as to minimize their consequences on the environment, the people and facilities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) PROGRAMMES

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) PROGRAMMES

Applicants seeking Higher National Diploma [HND] admission must possess the basic entry requirements for the National Diploma Programme.  In addition, the applicant must possess the ND in Urban and Regional Planning obtained at not less than the Lower Credit level from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro or from any other Polytechnic accredited for the programme, or its recognised equivalent plus a minimum of one [1] year post qualification relevant industrial work experience. The candidate should also request his or her institution to forward his or her official

NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) PROGRAMMES

WAEC,GCE[O/L],SSCE,NECO,NABTEB or equivalent with Credits in English Language, Mathematics, Geography, one basic Science and any other subject from the following: Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Physics, Further Mathematics, Economics/Commerce, Technical Drawing/Graphics Design, Painting and Decoration, Civic Education, Building Construction, WoodWork, Computer Studies,  Basic Electronics, Financial Accounting, Draughtsmanship/ Graphic Design, Introduction to Building Construction,  Machine WoodWorking,  Metal Work, ,  Business Management, Electrical Installation & Maintenance Work, Computer Craft Studies.

HND COURSE OBJECTIVES [FULL-TIME]

On completion of the Higher National Diploma programme in Urban and Regional Planning, the grades should be able to:

- understand the nature and purpose of physical planning at national, regional, state and local levels;

- understand the role physical planning in eco-development;

- understand the general, social, economic and political basis of physical planning Nigeria;

- identity and analyse physical planning problems and proffer solutions to them;

- prepare technical reports of various types and on planning issues;

- advise planning policy and decision makers.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) PROGRAMMES

Applicants seeking Higher National Diploma [HND] admission must possess the basic entry requirements for the National Diploma Programme. In addition, the applicant must possess the ND in Computer science obtained at not less than the Lower Credit level from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro or from any other Polytechnic accredited for the programme, or its recognised equivalent plus a minimum of one [1] year post qualification relevant industrial work experience. The candidate should also request his or her institution to forward his or her official academic transcript under confidential cover to the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro.
