Every nation pays attention to transportation development because of the catalytic role it plays in the development and growth of society.  Over the years, transportation is very key in the development agenda of the successful government in Nigeria, the extent to which the agenda is achieved can be linked to available human capacity in the sector.  It is in response to this, the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro mounted Transportation Planning and Management programme to provide the needed human capacity for Nigeria’s Society and beyond.

What we do in the Department of Transport Planning Management

Overview

The Department of Transportation Planning and Management was conceived and delivered by the great visionary leader, Arch. Olusegun Olanrewaju Aluko PhD, the 5th Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro.  He saw the need for capacity development in the transport industry which was evident in the restructuring agenda of government through the creation of Ministries of Transportation; traffic management agencies; and deregulation of the port and aviation industry.

 

Before now, Transport Planning was being offered only in Nigerian Universities; however the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro; pioneered the programme in the Polytechnic system in 2016 with the view of providing opportunities for middle-level professional capacity development in Transportation Planning and Management.

Our Objectives

GOALS

The programme is designed to produce technically skilled professionals in Transportation Planning and Management that are capable of providing needed capacity in the local and international transport industry.

At the end of this program, the student should be able:

To appreciate the purpose of transportation planning and management in national development

 

Understand the various levels of transportation planning, operations, and management.

 

Understand the various modes of transport and their interrelationships.

 

Understand various transportation problems and their solutions

NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) PROGRAMMES WAEC, GCE [O/L], SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or equivalent with Credits in English Language, Mathematics, Geography, and or Economics, one basic Science and any other subject from the following: Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Physics, Business Management, Further Mathematics, Economics/Commerce, Technical Drawing/Graphics Design, Painting and Decoration, Civic Education, Building Construction, Metal Work, Financial Accounting, Introduction to Building Construction, Machine WoodWorking.
