The pioneering students graduated in October 2018 with 5 distinction students. In line with vision, which is aligned to the corporate strategy of FPI (to be the best in Nigeria within its mandate) we have adopted emphasis on practical training. As a polytechnic, we emphasize ‘Leisure and Tourism’; hence for all our courses, practical contents are compulsory (in addition to those specified by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE). What we do in the Department of Leisure and Tourism

Overview

The Department of Tourism Management Technology (formerly knowns as Leisure and Tourism Management) took off with 43 National Diploma (ND) students in October, 2016. The pioneering students graduated in October, 2018 with 5 distinction students. In line with vision, which align to the corporate strategy of FPI (to be the best in Nigeria wihtin its mandate), we adopted emphasis on practical training. The approval to run the Higher National Diploma (HND) was granted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in the 2022/2023 session. As a polytechnic, we emphasize on practical contents in our courses (in addition to those specified by the NBTE).

 

At present, Tourism Management Technology has a well trained workforce to deliver on the mandate of personal training for the tourism industry through the National and Higher National Diploma programmes in the department. The lecturers and technologists are specialist in Tourism, Wildlife and Hospitality management courses.

 

Facilities in the depatment include Kitchen and Restaurants, Artifacts Gallery, Zoological Garden, Forest with various kind of plants for demonstration.

 

Our goal is to ensure that our graduates are job-ready (either as employees or self-employed). To make this possible, the management ensures that all necessary equipment is avialble.

Entry requirements for the National Diploma in Tourism Management Technology programme include at least a minimum score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Five credit passes at not more than two sittings in West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE, Senior School Certificate (SSCE/NECO), National Technical Certificate (NTC), General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary level, the West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) in the following subjects, English Language, Mathematics and any two from the following:- Geography, Economics/Commerce, History, Marketing, Civic Education, Government, Accounting, Tourism Studies and any one from:- Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Food and Nutrition.
